Gallery Walk Friday October 8th

The Red Avocado will be participating in the Iowa City Gallery Walk on Friday October 8th, from 5pm-8pm. Please join us for a glass of wine, or end you walk here for dinner. We are featuring the “Memory Series” of Ali Kirsch.

“Each painting in this series is inspired by a very specific memory I have from growing up. My goal is to record my experience of that memory using text and artifacts and then bury it by embedding those artifacts within layers of paint. By burying my memories I hope to replicate the way our Earth buries her “memories” or fossils beneath layered sand. My mind is the only one that can truly decode each specific memory. However, I hope that the viewer uncovers the clues and undertones present in my own experiences that resonate with the hidden memories and emotions of their own.”

…on Sunday August 15th at 8pm. Join us for a mellow evening of music with The Lonelyhearts. This is the second recent show here at The Red Avocado and we had a great crowd for the last one. It’s an informal occasion and we will have our full drinks menu available. This will be a very serene evening of music.

Backyard Abundance is an environmental education nonprofit residing in Johnson County, Iowa. Backyard Abundance teaches simple and effective ways to grow food, improve water and soil quality and provide habitat. Through this, it achieves its mission to help people reconnect with nature by teaching ecological skills that enable the creation of beautiful, resilient communities and landscapes that model healthy ecosystems.
