Last Wednesday of October, we will donate a portion of the evenings dinner to University of Iowa Center for Human Rights, an organization devoted to the promotion and protection of human rights at home and abroad through distinguished multidisciplinary leadership in human rights research, education, and public service to The University of Iowa, its surrounding communities, the State of Iowa, and beyond.

The UICHR is guided by the basic tenets of a free society to which The University of Iowa is committed. In fulfilling its mission, it therefore continuously revisits even the most fundamental aspects of human rights, treating human rights not as a corpus of fixed thought and action, but as a set of assumptions and choices that are open to constant rethinking because of ever-evolving ideas, conditions, and needs.

Backyard Abundance teaches simple and effective ways to grow food, improve water and soil quality and provide habitat. The first weekend in June brings Artfest to Iowa City. The Red Avocado is participating in the Artsfest Gallery Walk this Friday, June 4 from 5-8pm. We are featuring the photographs and collages of local artist Sandy Dyas.

Sandy’s photographs capture the heart and soul of both Iowa & Iowa City and will be on display here thru June.
